Early on in the summer, Jen Atkinson asked me if I was putting Terran in preschool. I hadn't even considered it. Her boy is Bridger, who is Terran's best friend, and he turned 3 in august so he was going. I told Jen Terran was still too young and we would have to wait.

It turns out our neighbor Jen Robison was actually teaching preschool, and Bridger and Terran play with her little girl Daylyce all the time. Both Jens told me they thought Terran could do it, and I figured since he would prefer to be playing with them anyway so it might just work. He typically listens better with other kids and in group settings.

Jen R. and I decided I would stay so if he was distracting I could intervene without it interrupting her class.

As it got closer and I realized what preschool would entail, I got hesitant with letting my baby take this step to growing up. There was no need to rush it. But I talked myself back into it because I figure he could get a head start on learning and end up at Kindergarten ahead of the curve.

We got to his class and all he wanted to talk about were the cars he plays with there. He went right to play with the toys. I'm sure it didn't help that he plays over there often and all they do is play.

Jen did a little welcome activity and he listened okay. Then we went back downstairs to start and all the moms left. Terran just thought it was playtime and wouldn't sit with the group. They all were listening and repeating each others names while I was trying to get Terran to just sit on his mat. His attention span was too short to listen to instructions. A few times I thought he was going to start participating, but he just went back to toys and tried to bring them to the circle.

I couldn't help but think that what he needs at this age is still to be carefree and playful. I didn't want to force him to abandon his desire to play with toys so young. In a way, I was relieved to see the answer staring back at me. Deep down I felt like it was better for me and him to spend more time together before he is in school next year. Especially with me coaching this basketball season, I knew as I brought him home that this was the best decision for us.

I'm not sure the age cutoff for elementary but I think Terran might still have two years before Kindergarten so I have no qualms about not doing it this year. And, to be honest, I'm excited to still have so much time with him during the week. :)

(I have to say that Terran didn't get a great breakfast, which is both mine and Zach's fault, and that contributed to him not wanting to do as he was told. I still think the end decision is best but I do think he would have done a little better with a good breakfast in his belly.)

Zach's unit was doing an exercise in Logan for a week so I decided to head up for a few days to spend time with him.

I have been thinking about going to Bear Lake all summer. Since we were going to be in Logan I thought we could just jaunt over, not realizing it was another hour away. Paige and her kids were going so we decided to go anyway. There had been fires in the area so the air was extremely hazy, but the drive there was absolutely beautiful and the lake was huge. I don't remember ever going there so I think it was my first time.
We went on the Idaho side of the lake and found a nice sandy spot for the kids to play in the sand. I wanted to rent a kayak or paddle board, but there wasn't any rental close by. The water was still pretty chilly, but we did go in a few times. It was really shallow even after walking out far, which is great with kids! We picnicked and played around for a few hours, then headed to town for an infamous raspberry shake. It was delicious.

That night Zach let me go for a run and I found my way to the temple. It is a unique temple as it isn't completely white, but it was beautiful!

The next day we went to a park and wildlife zoo. Terran seems to really enjoy outings with friends.

We got to have dinner with Zach both nights but really didn't feel like we got a lot of time with him. We headed home Wednesday so we could make it to my basketball game!

Terran Tidbits

I woke up this morning to Terran standing next to my bed saying "I'm here!" With a huge smile on his face.

Terran has taken to calling Zach "honey" sometimes. :)

I got Terran marshmallows at the store and gave him some today. He loves them. I really got them to make Rice Krispy Treats so I asked him if he wanted to make some and bring them to his friends. He thought for a second then hurriedly said "no...mine...yummy" while rubbing his tummy. I laughed really hard and he laughed with me. I suppose I should have taught him about giving to others but we just laughed as loud as we could, making faker and faker laughs as we went.

When Terran sees me pull out the camera, he turns his back to me.

Terran and I have been playing all morning and he just walked up to me and said "I'm happy". It made my day!

Terran Today

I let Terran play with uncooked black beans while I tried to get lunch ready. He dumped them cup by cup on the floor. I swept them up. He came and scattered them by hand.

I later came in the room while he was eating Cheerios. He had dumped 3/4 of the bag in his bowl and on the counter. He was flicking them off the counter one by one.

As I was doing some things for activity days, he asked/demanded to paint again. We did that a few days ago while I worked on a craft. I set up his cardboard and gave him some brushes, then went to finish what I was doing. I came back to my blue man. Blue belly, blue arms, and even some on his cheek and chin. I expressed my astonishment and maybe laughed a little, then he threw his head back and gave me a hearty laugh. It was all fun and exploring, you see.

This instances were strange for me because for the last several months Terran has been so trustworthy when I leave him alone. I'm guessing that phase may be ending. :)

He fell asleep on our way to my bball game so I knew he would be cranky. I didn't realize he would cry big tearful cries whenever I stepped onto the court. :(

On our way home from the game, Terran held my hand in the car and said over and over, "This is fun!" I had to laugh. He must have really missed being with me when I was playing ball. :)

And one random sidenote, he slept almost 12 hours, straight through the night last night! First time ever.

Daddy's home!

Zach has started bringing Terran presents after he is away for a while. Thus time after spending over 2 weeks in LA at the Special Olympics, he brought Terran a remote controlled helicopter. Terran loves flying Zach's with him, so he was so excited and each day when Zach gets home he says "fly top top" and they fly it.

Hogle Zoo

We went to the zoo with Lacey and Cal today. Terran liked looking at everything and, of course, loved riding the train.

Sunday Picnic

We decided to head up AF Canyon for a picnic after church on Sunday. Terran took a nap while Zach and I got to talk some, we played by the reservoir, moved to a picnic spot that was covered with ants, moved again, and then enjoyed digging in the dirt, reading, and relaxing for hours.
